Are you interested in incident command training to help build your skills? Command Vision offers training that is applicable for all levels from firefighter to fire chief. For about $60
per person, you can host a 1-day training that can cover up to six different topics from the list below.
Some of these topics have some overlapping information. I am happy to make suggestions if needed. I can normally cover 4-5 topics during the day.
High Performance Incident Command
This topic defines the expectation of an incident commander? Each expectation is directly tied to a fireground fatality and NIOSH Fatality Report. The use of tactical worksheets will be discussed and demonstrate how it helps keep your scene safer with better accountability as well as forecasting.
Size-Up and the 360
This topic discusses how to size-up private dwellings and extract as much information as possible. We will discuss building construction and determine if the structure is Occupied-Vacant-Abandoned. We will also discuss deceptive coverings of legacy homes, and the hidden dangers such as balloon frame construction and knee walls, and the radio report for 360 size-up.
Managing the Mayday
This topic discusses the most frequent causes of a mayday. Lost and separated from the hoseline. Falls into the basement. Falls from a roof. Air emergencies. We will discuss Normalization of Deviance. There will be a practical application of the mayday worksheet. And discuss basic information about R.I.T. and how effective R.I.T. is.
Risk Management at Defensive Operations (new topic)
This class looks at numerous defensive fires that have resulted in a line-of-duty death. Discussion about Normalization of Deviance in the fire service. How to effectively manage the hazard zone.
Mastering a Calm Command
This topic discusses how to prepare yourself for the challenges of commanding fires. We will discuss various ways to train your brain, and how stress inoculation helps performance. We will also discuss OODA Loop, and talk about contagious stress.
Accountability
This topic discusses accountability tags, Personnel Accountability Report, Two-In Two-Out and crew continuity. We will discuss how to anticipate air consumption, and how important relief crews and a tactical worksheet helps the IC maintain a safe fireground.
Situational Awareness
This topic discusses expecting the unexpected, such as motor vehicle collisions while responding, ambushes, gunfire, and violent scenes. We will also discuss lost and disoriented emergencies, out-of-air emergencies, rapid fire progression, building collapse and more.
Making the Most of Limited Resources
This topic discusses how to be better prepared for success. We will discuss NFPA 1710 & 1720, two man engine crews, rural water resources, and pre-established assignments. We will also discuss how to train to be successful, and setting up your rig.
Basic Incident Command
This topic discusses the three types of command, and the functions of the IC. We will briefly discuss tactical worksheets, and functional capacity of the brain. We will also discuss NFPA 1710 initial alarm requirements, as well as Span of Control and Unity of Command.
Unified Command
This topic discusses the Unified Command Post and how to develop an Incident Action Plan. We will review the types of command posts, and discuss command priorities. This topic can include a practical exercise if requested.
Practical Application of Command Strategy (New topic)
This topic provides a wide range of structure fire scenarios utilizing images and video. We will discuss current effective strategies to combat fires, calculating fire flows, and knowing the maximum attack capacity of your department.
Dying for Action - Failing to Evaluate and Manage Risk (New topic)
This is an in depth look into fire fatalities that occurred due to a failure to manage risk on the fireground. We will look at fatalities involving structural collapse, as well as other catastrophic events that result in firefighter fatalities. We will discuss Risk Management, Normalization of Deviance, the Swiss Cheese Model, and Mission Creep
